The bullfght has been protected by the French Government. First decision, nº423647, confirms that, under Article 13 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union 'the Union and the Member States shall respect animal welfare requirements as regards national laws and customs, religious rituals, cultural traditions and regional heritage. Therefore, the lawfulness of bullfights in the name of well being of animals must in no way be violated in any european country'. On the other hand, in its decision nº430881 of 18th of November, The French government confirmed that 'there was no investigation showing the harmfullness of bullfighting to minors and rejected the demand for a ban on bullfighting schools'.
